Hi guys! My name is Xio Bonilla and it’s very nice to meet you! I’m half Puerto Rican and Panamanian, I speak fluent Spanish and I couldn’t be more proud of my culture. I was born in North Carolina but I don’t consider myself “from there.” My dad and stepdad are both in the army so I moved around quite a bit. Unlike many army kids, I loved moving around, seeing new places and meeting new people. My favorite place and where I consider I “grew up” is Wiesbaden, Germany. I moved there when I was 14yrs old and left when I was 17yrs old. I think 14 to 17 is a big maturity jump so I feel like I really did grow up there. I came in as a freshman and graduated in 2008.
Living in another country was a great experience, I love traveling and it gave me a chance to see so many places I never dreamed I would see. I’ve been to Italy, Germany, Austria, France, England, Holland and Egypt. Living overseas has not only opened my eyes to other cultures but it has also opened my eyes to possible careers. My major is Political Science- International Studies with a minor in Spanish. Ultimately my dream would be to work with United Nations or at an embassy, maybe even be an ambassador for the United States one day.
A big part of my life is my sorority Zeta Tau Alpha. I’ve been a member since fall 2008 and I absolutely love it! I have two brothers but I always wanted a sister, well when I joined ZTA I immediately gained 40 sisters. It was a bit overwhelming at first but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! I am currently VPII: New Member Coordinator. My job is to teach the new members or as we call them Zeta Babies all of our history. I love being a part of something bigger than myself, something that does so much for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness and something that makes me feel like I belong.
This was just a piece of my crazy, embarrassing, never-dull, always eventful life. I really enjoyed sharing a little bit of myself to you all. I hope you enjoyed it!
