What gives you the right . . . ?

I’m sick of taking classes only to find that 1/4 of my classmates are 18 year-olds who obviously don’t care about being there. I especially am sick of those same people who insist on talking (not even bothering to whisper) throughout an entire class period. Why are you wasting mommy and daddy’s money and wasting your time? The fact that you won’t shut up long enough to listen to a lecture shows that you do not care about being there. But I’m sure you’re discussing something really important. We all know how much more important your date Friday night and what’s happening on whatever crap MTV show you may be discussing are than your collegiate career.

I’m currently in an Intro to *insert subject here* class, and I made the mistake of choosing to sit in front of two of the most immature AND sexist people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Not only do they talk during the entire hour and fifteen minutes of class, but they routinely make derogatory statements about women. Today’s statement:

Idiot #1: “Yeah, prostitution is the world’s oldest profession.”
Idiot #2: “Actually, it’s women’s oldest profession, and the only thing they’re good at.”

When a person nearby told them to shut up, they then proceeded to make fun of this person. This is the kind of behavior I’d expect to see in middle school or even high school. I’m sick of how college has become high school part 2. This is college. This is meant to be an institution provided for those of us who give a crap about learning and about bettering ourselves. So, please quit wasting your parents’ money (or, in the off chance that you’re one of the few idiots like this who actually pays your own way, your own money), and quit wasting your time. Unlike high school, you don’t have to go to college. So, please, stay home, and let the rest of us learn.

Wow- I think it’s time for the teacher to “excuse” these two students from class- and our school.
