Village People

Everyone has heard the adage “it takes a village to raise a child”.  It really does, but not only does it take a village to raise a child it takes one to be a successful college student.  As a nontraditional student I must say if it were not for my village college would still be a dream deferred.  My village includes my core family and friends who were always there telling me that I was capable of being such much more than I already was. Not that I was in a bad place, just not in the place where I should have been.  Without their love, support, and urging I may not have decided to attend a four year college at all.

Upon entering college my personal village began to grow.  I’ve met new friends, and co-workers who encourage me to: do my best, take every day as it comes, not sweat the small stuff, and to keep going.

My very own village people supply me with books when I don’t have one, the use of their computers when I need it, food when I’m hungry and probably the two things I’m most grateful for – words of encouragement when I need it and a hug or two when I need it.

Hey everyone who’s a part of my village Thanks.  I know that without you there would not be a successful me.

Personal Side note

PJ (I know today’s been rough but mommy loves ya thanks for being there with open arms and big kisses)

Tiara - Hi, I’m Tiara Jackson. Currently I am a sophomore (1 class shy of being a junior) Public Relations Major. I’m a single mother of one and I am a student worker at ASU. I love ASU because it affords me the opportunity to go to a great school and work without neglecting my duties as a mother. The support that I have found here from faculty, staff, and most of all my fellow students have greatly exceeded any expectations I had before I started at ASU. I could have chosen a school in SC, where I live, but the location and the campus put ASU at the top of my list. I hope that my blog keeps you entertained about the ups, downs, and sideways of being a non traditional student at ASU. Happy reading.
