Allow me to start this blog off by saying that this is not about the Major Motion Picture starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bulluck (I believe that is how you spell her last name). Although that is a delightful and very funny movie, and one that I recommend watching with that “special someone”, I have another more delightful proposal to offer…What about football here at Augusta State University?

I know what some of ya’ll might be thinking, “Oh, if we bring football players in, it’ll lower the university’s overall GPAs and bring big dumb jocks onto campus. It’ll make it a less safe environment” etc etc. I know that these were the concerns voiced at LaGrange College at the announcement of our football team. Obviously those concerns were unwarranted and unfair of those players brought onto campus (and I was personally offended and hurt…not really but still). Bringing football onto a campus does more things that some people don’t realize. Yes, starting a football program is a very expensive process, however, once the program gets running it pays for itself and provides monetary support for the other athletic programs on campus. Football also brings about a new atmosphere and new students. A college football program in a big city like Augusta would also be good and beneficial to the city itself. The football program would be able to get involved in the community, run camps for children, volunteer, and give back to the community that offers its support. Also, another athletic team gives students more pride in their school!

Overall, football is something that changes how people view a college or university…It changed LaGrange College, for the better…I was just thinking that it would be nice to maybe raise the issue about starting a football program. The benefits outweigh the cost, and all joking aside, I’d coach(Perhaps I’ll blog my football credentials later this week).

But in all honesty, let’s give this idea some real consideration and thought.
