The Comfort Zone

In these past few days I think that I’ve finally started realizing just how important classmates are.

Now, in this semester I can’t say that I’ve made many new friends but I have made some pretty cool acquaintances that could turn into friends. There’s something that I have come to realize though, I depend on them a lot. As I wrote in my last post, I’ve been pretty nervous about finals and I had my first one today but as I stood with a classmate outside waiting in the hall for my teacher to unlock and already unlocked room, I realized that just having someone familiar around put my nerves somewhat at ease.

After this thought came to my attention, I realized how much it rang true for the rest of my classes, too. For instance, during my exit essay I was so relieved to have a fellow essay writer sitting next to me, one that I saw almost everyday for the past three or so months and then for my group presentation I was relaxed as my friend walked through the door to present with me, and not just because she had the power point but because she was somewhat of a comfort zone.

So even though you may not talk to all of the people in all of your classes, they really are important, even if you don’t quite realize it.

Val - My name is Valerie England and I am a child of summer. Born in Washington State during one of the hottest summers on record, I am the youngest of four children and the only girl. For most of my life I’ve lived in Augusta with my family and though I’ve grown to appreciate the comforts of home, I plan to spend most of my life travelling and exploring the far corners of the earth. This is my dream. During my exploration of mother earth, I plan to write gobs of novels and short stories. Ever since I can remember, I have been a writer. When I was in elementary school I made my own notebooks from reams of computer paper and filled them with the bubbling over of my imagination. I think this is the only thing you really need to know about my past, the rest is rather boring. When I turned fourteen I started dancing and immediately fell in love. After two years of dancing recreationally I started competing and became addicted to the stage. Once I graduated high school I started teaching. It’s been a wonderful experience and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m a nerd at heart, I love learning and I just can’t seem to get enough which is why I made the decision to attend university. Questions are my main form of speech, if I’m not asking them it means that I’m daydreaming or pondering over what happened in the previous night’s episode of Doctor Who (my newest nerdy obsession). To sum things up, I’m a restless writer who dreams with the best of them and plans to leave my footprints across the globe. Welcome to my journey!
