Simple Pleasures
I have learned over the years that enjoying your free time is one of the most important factors to being successful with school. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the mundane aspect of studying, projects, and assignments that you forget to use that little free time you have to do something fun. Typically, I catch myself engulfed in a rerun of Jersey Shore or clicking through Facebook when I have an hour to spare. However, this is most damaging way to spend your free time! Actively doing something enjoyable makes the day worthwhile and the studying seem less miserable. HereĀ are some of my favorite (FREE!) simple pleasures around town that make that little free time I have seem 100x better! Innocent fun without spending a dime can really help form those long lasting memories of college!
-Going for a walk at Savannah Rapids
-Bike riding on the Greenway
-Find the camera on the James Brown statue and stage a photo shoot http://www.augustaarts.com/jamesbrowncam.htm
-Inner tube down the Savannah River
- Window shop in Artist Row downtown
- Stroll down Walton Way and pick out your dream house
- Watch the alligators in the pond next to the 13th Street bridge (N Augusta)
- Attend First Friday downtown or First Thursday in Summerville
- Stroll through the Chinese gardens of Westover Cemetery (you think creepy, but totally beautiful!)
- Feed the fish in Hammond’s Ferry
- Relax on the Riverwalk…there is always a show there

Hey Maddie! First off, I’d like to say that I love this post because I’ve probably done almost everything on this list, and I’ve only been in Augusta for a year–pretty proud! Secondly, I love that you love photo shooting! I think that’s the coolest thing ever, because I am an EXTREME photo-shooter and I will probably whip out my camera anywhere to just take random, cool looking pictures! And the last thing I want to do is respond to your question at the end of this post: sometimes when I feel like I need a break from school and studying, I will call up a close friend and just have a good conversation or have a dance party with my three wonderful roommates! It’s not really something you can do around town, but it still feels good to just take a break away from all the hastle that comes with being a student.
