I came in a two for one special. Along with my sister, I was born in Maine, but was raised for the majority of my formative years in Florida. When I was in 3rd grade, my family and I moved to Georgia, where I began school at Brookwood Elementary. The most challenging part of the move was that everyone here had already progressed to learning their times-tables, while I, having missed out on a month of schooling, had yet to be introduced to even the mere idea of multiplication. I guess it left an impression because I confess, mathematics and I have not had a good relationship since.
When I first started school at Augusta State University, I enrolled as a Biology Major, and worked my way through the intro classes to Zoology before I experiencing what can be loosely described as a 1/4-life crisis, wherein I finally acknowledged that my mind alone was interested in my major; outside of curiosity, I had no heartfelt passion for learning about the biological, and coupled that with the fact that I was floundering in Statistics, I was miserable.
In my sophomore year I considered making a drastic switch to the English program. I have been writing reverently for most of my life, and reading just as long. In high school I took AP courses in literature, so I felt mildly prepared, and after a long discussion with my family I decided to dedicate my career path to English. It was a little while longer before I matured enough to get serious about my commitment, but eventually I came to understand that the subject both challenged my mind and genuinely made me happy.
So I fell in love with English. I am currently a junior concentrating on Creative Writing in the English degree program. Though my interest in primarily in prose writing. I have participated and placed in two Morris museum poetry competitions. I live at home in Grovetown with my mom, my twin sister Danielle, two dogs (Marley and Nova) and a cat whose name keeps morphing over time. I have overcome many hardships during my college career and hope to share my insights in the most helpful and productive way possible, but most of all, I hope you had a wonderful time reading. Enjoy!
