Degrees of Difficulty
Last night my roommate and I sat in our living room talking with a mutual friend. We discussed a variety of topics, but the conversation eventually turned to majors and which degree programs were more difficult than others were. While they debated the struggles they face in their respective classes, I wondered if different majors have different levels of difficulty.
My roommate felt that biology was one of the most challenging degree programs at ASU, while our friend felt that his computer science classes were equally complicated. I could not comment on whose courses were more difficult, because I have never taken a biology or computer science course. I did mention, however, that as an undergraduate, there were communications and Spanish courses that kept me in the library alongside art and education majors. I told them that I was not sure which major is the most difficult at Augusta State, but I did know that it is not easy to receive a college degree, regardless of major.
My mother’s words of wisdom to me throughout my college career were that if it were easy, everyone would have a degree. I tend to agree with her. No matter what your major is, you may struggle through a class or two. The important thing to remember is that no matter how difficult your major may seem to you, it will be worth it if your degree will bring you closer to your career or personal goals.
Now that I am a public administration student, I still run into a mixture of students from a variety of degree programs studying around campus. This intensifies my belief that no matter what major you choose, it may be difficult at some point. So when you are going through that demanding course, grueling semester, or challenging year during you college career, remember that it is not supposed to be easy, but it is worth it.
