Textbooks can be intimidating!
The first day of each semester is always exciting for me but a first glimpse inside the semester’s text books can be intimidating. So I try to remember my first semester at ASU when I was taking the lowest remedial math offered.
I went and got my textbooks from the campus bookstore. Filled with anxiety, joy, awe and trepidation I looked at them. The first book I opened was math. I was filled with great alarm. I felt as if I had gotten the wrong book because this book in my hands could not be the lowest remedial math offered! It was too advanced. So I asked my husband to go by the bookstore and double check what I had gotten.
It was the correct book.
I started school, attended class, did my homework and passed everything. So my lesson learned from my first semester is ‘do not have an anxiety attack when firstlooking at the textbook’
This semester I have Business Statistics. What is easy for some students may be hard for another. I postponed this class until I could no longer postpone it. Just looking at the textbook is enough to make me consider dropping out of college. But wait! I have come too far to think nonsense thoughts like that.
Business Stats is just another hoop I must jump through on the way to graduation. I take a deep breath and say ‘bring it on.’
