At least I was able to go back to sleep
I am extremely frustrated with myself right now. I thought I was working this morning but after arriving at work at 8, I looked at the schedule to find I’m actually working at 3.
This is not good news because tonight is the first night of the theatre festival auditions and as both a committee member and director, it’s extremely important I be there. I hate feeling so irresponsible. I’m a little surprised with myself too because I NEVER mess up my schedule. I’ve been feeling lately that I’m not very organized this semester and this incident only confirms that. I need to be better about working ahead in my classes as opposed to the bare minimum because I feel like all this work is going to hit me all of a sudden. I have a grant writing project and a research paper for Media Law and Ethics due at the end of the semester and I’ve done very little thus far for both.
Again, go to auditions tonight. What I really like about ASU is how easy it is to get involved with something and how much opportunity you have to participate. At a bigger school, I probably wouldn’t get as many chances to do all the things with theatre that I do. I also probably wouldn’t have initially gotten involved because a bigger program would have been very intimidating. But if you’re new to ASU (or new to this state, like me) and you’re looking to get involved and meet new people, find something you’re interested in and just do it. My first semester here I saw an audition flier for Oedipus on the first or second day of school and decided to try out on a whim, though I hadn’t acted in years. At my old school, I didn’t know anyone or do anything outside of the music building and I wanted my time at ASU to be different. I wanted to be more involved. I was terrified because though I love being on stage, I’m extremely shy with people I don’t know. But everyone was super cool and welcoming. Performing in Oedipus was the best thing because I made a lot of friends and it opened the door to more opportunites. Even if theatre is not your thing, there’s lots of stuff to be involved with on campus. Sometimes you just have to go looking for it.
Off to work this time. For real.
