ASU’s Theatre Department

I just want to take a quick moment here and promote ASU’s Theatre Department’s upcoming productions.  This weekend will see the debut of Antigone, one of Sophocles’ great theatrical works.  If you’ve never read this play, I highly recommend it.  This, along with Euripides’ Medea, is, in my opinion, the finest example of Greek tragedy in existence.

The next work to be performed will be an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, based on the novel of the same name by Jane Austen.  I’ve never been much of a Jane Austen fan, much to the annoyance of several of my female friends who so love everything Austen.  I did enjoy Pride and Prejudice much more than any of the other novels I read by her, though, and I do think that Elizabeth Bennet is a truly wonderful and timeless character.  My dear sister will actually be playing the role of Mary Bennet in ASU’s production, and, so, I’m most definitely promoting for her.  :-p

Antigone will run this Friday and Saturday (October 10th and 11th) evenings.  The show starts at 8:00 and runs until about 10:30, according to ASU’s calendar.

Pride and Prejudice will run November 7th and 8th from 8:00-10:30pm (roughly) and November 9th from 3:00-5:30pm.

Tickets (for both shows) are free for all ASU students WITH CURRENT ID.  Otherwise, it’s $5 for all other students, and $10 for everyone else (except for Senior Citizens, who get in for $7).  Lastly, just as a side note:  If you go to these performances but somehow get there late, be courteous and quickly find a seat that’s easy to get to.  Please do not stomp in, giggling as you squeeze by several other (already seated) patrons to try to sit next to your friends who are sitting right in the center.
