If you ever meet me in person, you may notice I don’t have an accent. That’s because I’m originally from Des Moines, Iowa. I moved here with my husband and our two kids when my husband was transferred to help open a new facility in the Augusta area. I’ve been enjoying the weather ever since.

After a seven-year hiatus from school, I enrolled at Augusta State to begin working toward my BBA in Accounting. It’s been challenging, and absolutely worth it. Becoming a student here has introduced me to people in Augusta I may never have met otherwise. That includes my babysitter–who I couldn’t live without! Not knowing anyone in town makes for a lot of nights in when you’re a parent.

One thing I’ve noticed since starting is that I seem to be an awkward age for a freshman. In my day classes, I hear comments about being a bit “old” for the freshman/sophomore core. (For the record: I won’t be 24 until February. Definitely not old!) On the other hand, I’m often one of the younger ones in my evening classes. As it turns out, it doesn’t bother me. An age difference has started more than one conversation that had led to a friendship. Who knows? Maybe that will continue!
