As many may be aware Shinedown played at the Bell Auditorium last night. They headlined with Adelita’s Way and Sick Puppies. While I did not attend the the concert I did have the chance to see Adelita’s Way and Sick Puppies.
Both bands played acoustic sets in the JSAC Ballroom. The acoustics were good even though the room isn’t made for it. The singers both had good voices and the guitarists were talented.
For me that was about it. Now, I’m a “rocker” but not of their variety. They are classified as mainstream rock (i.e. Nickelback, Saving Abel, Seether etc).
I listen to alternative rock. According to my Genius Mixes on Itunes I listen to ‘Alternative & Punk’, ‘Alternative’, ‘Alternative 2′, ‘Soundtrack’, ‘Indie’ and ‘Religious Mix’. (To give an idea of what’s on I shuffled and here are the first five: The Ponytail Parade (Emery), All That I’ve Got (The Used), Punk Rock Princess (Something Corporate), Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn (Hellogoodbye), Saltwater Room (Owl City).
But I digress.
Even though the bands playing weren’t quite my cup of tea, I went to the show. (Partially to take pictures for the Bellringer). I feel that a student we shouldn’t take for granted what the school has to offer. And maybe this time it wasn’t a favorite band of mine, but if it is next time? Or would have been if there had been enough interest the first time bands played on campus?
ASU really does do a lot for students and many students do not take advantage of these opportunities. Often these same students complain about attending ASU. Sure, we aren’t UGA but there is a lot to do if take advantage of what is going on around campus.
